SUMMER

Summer at Mermaid Bay Beach Cottage brings out the kid in all of us.

WINTER

 

Winter’s clarity of sky and sea produce vivid, almost surreal views at Mermaid Bay Beach Cottage. Virginia coastal winters are moderate and ideal for strolling our sands for seashells more numerous this time of year.

Winter or any time of year we will always wax poetic about our sunsets. But the dawn of day is no rap song lyric either. Picture taken of the first sunrise of the first day of the year over wildlife filled Elliot’s Creek just yards from our cottage. Stand right between where the bay and the creek meet–amazing spot.

Winter: Snow occasionally visits leaving a graceful, light lace on our coastal landscape. No snow plow needed. [Applause]

 A winter sunset on the Chesapeake Bay is a blaze that warms the soul. Throw in some roasted local oysters and it gets even hotter.

 SPRING

Spring is a soft season here since winter backs off quickly bringing mild temps and the return of the osprey. A spectacle  to watch our coastal harbingers of spring fish the bay as they dive from amazing heights into the waters.

Spring means getting back on the porch and long beach excursions. Miles to hike and discover. Along with shells, the sharp eye can uncover sea glass- well bay glass really– and ancient Indian Arrowheads.

                      In Spring everything blooms on Mermaid Bay even the moon.

AUTUMN

In Autumn beach grasses grow gold and golden are the memories you’ll make at Mermaid Bay Beach Cottage

Autumn: Swim through September in mild waters and leave the coat up north for many a fall day spent in boundless blue.

An autumn view of  tranquil Elliot’s Creek flowing thru amber marshes. At twilight the call of the geese alighting on the cove is nothing short of magical.

Sleep Aside the Sea

Mermaid Bay Beach Cottage embraces its bay and woodland setting providing sea-song waves to lull you to sleep and the cheering good morning of songbirds. 4+ Bedrooms give you plenty of space for family visits. Master Suite

Bedroom or roomy den–your choice under the sweet sloped ceiling complete with 2 large skylights looking over Chesapeake Bay. Custom built-ins fill one wall, making it home office friendly. I love the whimsy we added with “waves” for our little mermaid. Storage ready window seat with lovely view through the trees to Elliot’s Creek [Great place to catch blue crabs to steam up for dinner “Shh!”] Easy accessible storage on both sides of the eaves.[upstairs]

The Sleeping  Mermaid Bedroom:Ok, I just like naming things here! Custom cabinetry make this an ideal guest room overlooking the majestic magnolia tree. Its lemony-scented blossoms are framed by twin crepe myrtles trees that burst with color for months in the late summer sun. [Upstairs]

House plans called for 2 windows but we added the 3rd so my daughter could take in lovely view of pond filled with angel-white egrets. Now you can too! Built-in shelves and storage ready window seats, along with interior cottage shutters on windows make it move in ready.[upstairs]

Currently we are using the Home Office as an additional bedroom, nice to have the flexibility. I call it the Magnolia Bedroom. 🙂 Well it does have the view and fragrance when it blooms of our grand Southern Lady. French doors, interior cottage shutters on 3 floor to ceiling windows bring in the outdoors. Warm wood floors like the entire first floor. Custom cabinetry. [downstairs]
